Upgrading the seating capacity at Georgia Institute of Technology’s football stadium required permanent earth retention to support the nearby access drives and existing stadium foundations. 9,100 square feet of permanent soil nailing was used to achieve this. Also included in this contract was increasing a critical column in capacity. Eight 130 kip compression and 100 kip tension capacity micropiles were installed in the athletic office lobby, during second shift to minimize disruption, upgrading the spread footing. The piles extended approximately 60 feet and were socketed into the underlying bedrock.
